About the Program

Graduate Program in Biotechnology and Biosciences

Master’s and Doctoral Degrees – CAPES Grade 5

The Graduate Program in Biotechnology and Biosciences at UFSC (PPGBTC) aims to: 1) prepare graduates at the master’s and doctoral levels in the areas of Biotechnology and Biosciences, qualified to work in teaching, research, and in the generation and application of technologies in the social-economic context in which they are inserted; 2) promote the training of human resources capable of working with the regional, national and international private sector and establishing integration with the industrial sector; and 3) consolidate its multidisciplinary character to efficiently explore the interfaces between Biotechnology subject areas at institutional and inter-institutional levels, in Brazil and abroad.

In the short term, the Program’s perspectives consider a closer approach to the production sector in Biotechnology-related fields, in connection with the apparent trend of directing public policies to support national science and technology as well as the training of human resources. Similarly, the perspectives regarding the program’s publications for the following years will privilege B1 journals (according to the Qualis/CAPES classification). Finally, a trend towards a preferential selection of doctoral students has been implemented, with the prospect of generating papers with greater depth and scientific impact.
